#TBTB #TBT – Why Does the World Hate Us?

ThrowBack Thursday

Has the intense anti-Christian vitriol spewed out by the culture ever made you wonder?

Are Christians really that bad?

Is our sincere love for the Creator of the universe and subsequent love for all of His creation so deplorable that we’re deserving of absolute detestation?

If we evermind God’s word, this question need not go unanswered. AMBrewster read a post by Doug Wilson that encouraged him to write this short piece about the real reason the unsaved culture hates Christians. Please click here to read “Why Does the World Hate Us?

#TBTB #TBT – Demons Among Us

ThrowBack Thursday

Demon’s Among Us” deserves to be one of Taking Back the Bible’s most widely read articles because it reminds us just what the fallen supernatural is and how it works in this world. There’s no reason to be afraid of Satan if you’re a born-again believer, but it’s foolish to underestimate his influence in this world.

We hope that AMBrewster’s article, “Demon’s Among Us,” is both instructive and edifying as we fight alongside each other in this battle against supernatural enemies.

What God has to Say about Your Crush

Relationships & God's Word

I recently made the observation on Facebook that the Bible does not directly address modern concepts of dating or courting. But it does define three relationships between unrelated men and women:

  1. The Husband & Wife
  2. The Saved & Unsaved
  3. The Saved & Saved

With all the talk about biblical masculinity and femininity (specifically within the realm of relationships), let’s take a minute to discover God’s point of view.

What does the Bible say?

Is Blood Really Thicker than Water?

I have extended family members who hold the belief that there’s no one more important than family.

They’re willing to sacrifice as many hours as it takes and suffer deleterious economic consequences all for family.

They’re even willing to compromise God’s truth to keep “peace” in the family.

Unfortunately, this view of family is anti-biblical.

#TBTBTBT – A Call to the Willing

ThrowBack Thursday

Today on Taking Back the Bible we travel to 2008 when a previously uncontacted tribe in the Amazon was photographed. This tribe had no idea what they were seeing, in fact, some of the men tried to shoot the plan down with their bows and arrows.

But there was something far more significant about this story than the fact these people have “never known anything or anyone outside their own thatched huts.”

Please enjoy “A Call to the Willing.”

Call to the Willing

Um. I told you so.

I and a score of Bible-believing Christians predicted that homosexual marriage would not be the last variant-lifestyle to seek “equality.” Gay advocates have blasted us for saying it, but we’ve said it nonetheless.

We also predicted that these varieties would rush in on America with such vigor that even the pro-gay community would be surprised.

Well. Um. I told you so.

  1. Eagle Rising gives us a glimpse into what they call “The New America” here where three lesbians have gotten married to each other and are expecting a baby. In the video, the benefits of “poly-fidelity” are paraded.
  2. The Northern Colorado Gazette is one of many periodicals to report that in light of the “alternative lifestyle” redefinition – pushed, kicked, and beaten through by the homosexual community – pedophiles are stepping out and garnering psychological “proof” that they too are just another “alternative lifestyle” deserving of inclusion. Read here what’s happening in American, and don’t be surprised to find out it’s happening all over the world (Iraq, Europe – According to Putin).
  3. And these are just two examples of the multitude of groups pushing for their aberrant lifestyles.

Come on, folks. We told you this would happen. More importantly, God told you this would happen.

Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.” Romans 1:24-32

Post-Modernism’s De-Evolution toward Pre-Paganism

pre-pagan

“Real science predicts.”

If real science predicts, real divinity prophesies.

Many still refer to the our societal way of thinking and relating as postmodern. The extreme difficulty one has in defining this philosophy gives the reader a clue as to the types of thoughts this philosophy breeds – fluffy ones at best.

Postmodernism

The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy begins its discussion of postmodern philosophy with,

That postmodernism is indefinable is a truism.”

Word of God Today gives us a slightly more helpful, laymen’s analysis.

While Modernism sees man as a material machine, Postmodernism sees man as simply a cog or node in a social machine.  Rather than being autonomous, man is a product of his culture and only imagines he is self-governing.  While Modernism greatly depended upon ‘reason’ for its progress, Postmodernism now declares that all reason is deeply flawed and affected by bias.  Thus all information, even hallowed scientific information, can no longer be trusted.”

This same article goes on to say,

Unlike the Modernists, the Postmodernists accept religion; any and all religion, except of course, that religion making a claim for universal truth.  Thus we see that both Christianity and Judaism are neatly and quickly excluded from the much talked-about Postmodern ‘toleration.'”

And though we can easily view this definition in our current culture, history has shown us that movements have a slow bleed from one frame of mind to another. Often we cannot accurately name the newest “-ism” until it’s matured enough to look distinct from the previous era. Unfortunately, this “maturation” often progresses like a shining 6th grader turning into a pimply 7th grader – older, but not more attractive.

And so I’d like to make a prediction. Based off of God’s divine foretelling, I believe we’re in the bleed right now, and we’re quickly moving out of postmodernism in America into a new take on an old favorite. Continue reading “Post-Modernism’s De-Evolution toward Pre-Paganism”

Is Your Faith a Fairy Tale?

Is Your Faith a Fairy Tale

On the road to Damascus he met the resurrected Savior of the world.

His life changed for eternity.

But he had a thorn.

Don’t abandon me yet – this post has nothing to do with Paul’s thorn. But it has everything to do with the reality your faith. Continue reading “Is Your Faith a Fairy Tale?”

“Be Most Dead”

Be Most Dead
"Be Most Dead"

Like a king meeting his death
On the road he took to avoid it,
So the church will breathe its last breath
When it tries to dictate its own worship

By implementing plans God denies.
For this can only happen
When men and women do not rely
On the truth the Lord has given.

In three days the temple had glory
By God's own hand.
And unless Christ sustains the body
It will fall under the plans of man.

Decapitation brings decay to every living thing.
How do you suppose to continue living
When you've severed Christ, our head?
The church, though full, will be most dead.

Stop Being the Leader!

Christians cannot wake up or spill their coffee without hearing about leadership.

But what is leadership?

About a year ago I was introduced to Leadership Lessons from Dancing Guy by Derek Sivers, and it revolutionized my understanding of leadership. I’ve attached the short video below and included the transcript at the bottom.

Though I have no reason to believe Mr. Sivers is a Christian, and though nothing he said in his video was a quote from the Bible, he still made some extremely biblical observations about leadership that I would like to borrow and apply directly to the Church.
